Silver Creek Cheerleaders
win State Championship

The Sellersburg community is still cheering after the Silver Creek High School Cheerleaders captured the Indiana State
Championship in the Varsity C division Nov. 4.
“We’ve been so close at times in the past, and one of the worst feelings in the world is coaching a team up to that point
and falling just a little short of that ultimate prize,” said Coach Jennifer Coffman. “You just hurt for the kids because you
see the work they put in each day. In the moments leading into rankings that day, I just wanted it so badly for them. This is
a special group of girls, as far as work ethic is concerned, and they had such a burning desire to capture the title this year
– they worked so hard to see it through. I think when their name was called as the state champion, as a coach, there is just
no greater joy than to see it all unfold and to see them be rewarded for all the work they’ve put in. It was a moment we will
never forget, I am certain of that.”
In addition to winning the state title, the Dragons also placed fifth in the Time Out Division.
A Silver Creek partner stunt group made up of five of the athletes also took home the state title in that division. And Bri
Hudson was named to the 2017 Indiana All-state Team. She becomes only the second cheerleader from Silver Creek to
receive the honor.
