EDITOR’S NOTE
Just before we went to press, the United Soccer League announced
Mark Briggs of Utah’s Real Monarchs had been named the league’s
Coach of the Year, despite the fact that Louisville City FC’s Head
Coach James O’Connor led his team to their USL Cup championship
win. Wait – what??
Despite this inexplicable decision (diss?), fans, players and surely
Coach O’Connor are still savoring the historic win at Slugger Field.
In this issue, you’ll find a recap by writer Kevin Kernen and photos
by Christian Watson. Want to see even more? Go to extolsports.com.
Many of us make resolutions as we head into the new year, and
the majority of us fail (present company included). So, why wait
until Jan. 1? In these pages, you’ll find inspiration to start today
from our Athlete Next Door Kelley Thomas, the Norton Sports
Health team, Extol Sport’s own JD Dotson, FamFitter husband ‘n’
wife duo Adam and Kristin Kleinert and others.
The Final Say columnist Zach McCrite returns with an ode to
former Louisville coach Rick Pitino after taking a brief hiatus. I’m
a Louisville fan living with a UK-loving husband, and as I told
him: “Just read it.”
Lastly, with this final issue of 2017, I want to thank you for taking
the time to pick up Extol Sports. We debuted in January and have
been thrilled to see the Kentuckiana community embrace our
publication. Your support – along with our advertising partners –
means more than I can convey. Thank you so much.
Truly,
The celebration of LouCity’s championship win continues.
