Extol: What do you love most about Derby?
Kristy Miles-Pearson: The galas. I don’t care too
much about the elements and being at the track –
although so historic and magical – but ANY excuse
to put a gown on, count me in! If I can’t make an
event, then I love helping Derby event goers pull a
look together!
Extol: What will you miss the most about Derby
this year?
Miles-Pearson: Oh, just how prideful the city feels
during that season. I feel like during Derby season
everyone gets a piece of the financial pie whether
they’re Airbnb-ing their homes or selling parking
spots and memorabilia on the streets around
Churchill, it’s Louisville’s time to shine.
Extol: Which comes first – the dress or the hat?
Miles-Pearson: It depends, but usually, the dress
for me, then the hat.
Extol: How old were you when you learned about
the Kentucky Derby and what do you recall?
Miles-Pearson: I was very young! It’s always been
around or on my birthday (May 6), and I come from
a big gaming family on my mother’s side. Every
Derby, we’d have a party at my grandmother’s
home with lots of food and bet on the big race. So,
before 10 years old for sure.
Extol: How will you celebrate Derby 2020?
Miles-Pearson: I believe I’m going to a friend’s
birthday party. Covid-safe, of course.
Extol: Who is your Derby 2020 horse?
Miles-Pearson: Based off the names, I’m loving
Winning Impression, Thousand Words, Authentic
and Ny Traffic.
