ED Letter, May/June

June is shifting Cornell Cooperative Extension, Schuyler County into high gear, with Hidden Valley 4-H Camp just around the corner, great new programming in 4-H, expanded agriculture work with specialty crops and nutrition education at the Watkins Glen Farmers Market. If that wasn’t enough, we also have two major events in June, with the inaugural Rock N Run “Funraiser” on June 13th and the Second Annual Celebration of Extension on June 24th.

Rock N Run? Yes … CCESC is hosting our first ever 5K timed run and 1K fun run/walk on June 13th, 9 AM with a pop culture theme. Since it might be difficult to run dressed as our most prominent Schuyler County agricultural products (Dairy? Grapes? Timber?), we are encouraging participants to dress as their favorite pop icons of any decade. CCESC staff promise to join in the fun, and we have a great route planned, with start-finish at our office in Montour Falls, and the majority of the run along the beautiful Catharine Valley Trail. So come out, have a great time, run with your buddies or for your PR and raise funds for the quality CCE programming you have come to expect from us. Check out our Facebook page for our event listing, as all registrations will be handled online. Keep up on race day on Twitter & Facebook with #RockNRun and #CCESC. Whose costume will take the day?

The Celebration of Extension is also very new and fresh for us, with a friendly invitation to come to a thematic afternoon of learning and exploration. This year we are celebrating garden-based learning, and the location at Hidden Valley 4-H Camp offers the perfect-hands-on laboratory for both youth and adults. Elizabeth Gabriel, of Cornell University’s Garden-Based Learning program and Wellspring Forest Farm will be our featured speaker, and we are building in opportunities to get your hands dirty and experience - not just hear about - learning in an outdoor environment. Scheduled to accommodate the half-day for local schools, the Celebration is a drop-in, hands-on experience running from 1 PM until 4 PM on Wednesday, June 24th. 2015 Hidden Valley Camp staff will also be available to conduct tours after the Celebration, so if you think Camp might be right for your child, come up for the Celebration and stay for a tour! Keep up with the mud, insects & glory on the 24th at Facebook and Twitter with #CelebrateCCE and #CCESC.

We can’t wait to see you at these or any of our other events and workshops. Keep up with us at https://www.facebook.com/ccesc or www. http://cceschuyler.org/ . Follow us on Twitter! @CCESchuyler.
