DJ QUICKSILVA
EXPOSURE COVER STORY (MAY/JUNE 2015)
“The Party Kingpin” is not a name
“The Party Kingpin” is not a name
that is simply given; yet it is a brand
that is earned. DJ Quicksilva has
been earning this brand for over
the last 20 years, and continues
to do so ‘till this day. Through his
years as a top level DJ in the DMV,
nationally & internationally, his
background and road to success
is what truly sets him apart from
other DJs and makes him a true
industry trendsetter!
Quicksilva grew up in East Baltimore with a life that can be tough
for anyone to overcome. He lost
both of his parents by the age of 18
(his mother when he was 10 & his
father at 18). In a time in which he
obtains no college degree, he’s poor
by the age of 21 & the streets have
become family, the one thing that
he never lost was his passion for
music and the art of DJing.
Quicksilva first explored the art of
DJing back in 1990, at the young
age of 10. Watching the classic
movie “Beat Street”, he was able
to convince his father to buy him
his first turntables. That year, he
also scored his first “gig” as a DJ,
for his cousin’s basement party. As
with any type of experience, this
also became a learning lesson. Not
knowing the proper equipment to
use, he rocked the party so hard
that the speakers blew! Even after
being booed, he went back, reassessed the necessities of what he
needed to be successful as a DJ, and
learned at a young age to “always
be over prepared”.
1994 brought Quicksilva his first
professional gig. Even though he
was only 14 years old, Club Indigo,
in Baltimore, welcomed him to get
their parties started on the weekends. Being that he was in the 9th
grade, Quicksilva could only DJ
during the 10pm-12m block (before his dad came to pick him up,
of course). But this gig definitely
brought him plenty of experience,
knowledge and bragging rights at
school.
From that point on, the sky was the
limit for DJ Quicksilva. His experiences and popularity in multiple
clubs and radio stations in Baltimore, eventually led him to the top
10 DC radio market in 2001. With
