Cathedrals

St.Basil Cathedral

The St. Basil Cathedral is a wonderful building to look at. This cathedral was ordered to be built by Ivan the terrible to mark the capture of Kazan from Mongol forces. It was orginally named "The Cathedral of the Intercession of the Virgin by the Moat." The cathedral is now a museum. It is made up of very colorful domes and has a bell tower.

Interested in checking it out? The cathedral's visiting hours are 11:00am to 5:00pm. It is located in the Red Square.

Smolny Cathedral

The Smolny Cathedral is one of most beautiful chruches in St.Petersburg. It is located on the banks of the Neva River. A half circle fence gates the entrance of the cathedral. The steps infront of the alter are decorated with cut-crystals and the walls are white marble and covered with sculptured images.
