Exploring Jewish Stereotypes in American Movies and Cartoons | страница 4

Introduction

The presence and the distinctive nature of Jewish religion and communities in the U.S. were factors that facilitated the emergence of Jewish stereotypes that are manifested in numerous ways in American movies. In this paper, I would like to present two American movies and two cartoons in which the well-known stereotypes mainly associated with Jews play fundamental roles. One of the movies is You Don’t Mess with the Zohan (2008) directed by Dennis Dugan. This American slapstick comedy plays with common Israeli stereotypes, such as their strange accent in English, traditional cultural elements, and the toughness of Israeli commandos.
