South Park and Judaism
Even though the list of insults Cartman makes could go on and on, some other episodes are also important to mention. “The Passion of the Jew” apparently is a mockery of Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ which covers twelve hours of Jesus’s life. The whole episode is about Cartman persuading Kyle that Jews are evil. Cartman then launches a fan club in his backyard where holds his meeting dressed as Hitler. One may think that portraying Hitler in any way is offensive, but let us not interpret it superficially. This nine-year-old is dressed as Hitler, thus implying that this is how important that person was; he was a joke himself. Cartman and his followers then start marching on the streets chanting “wir müssen die Juden ausrotten” which translates as “we must kill the Jews.” This very specific episode is also teetering on a tightrope of political correctness when it shows Kyle visiting the Synagouge and suggesting that the Jews choose to apologize for the Crucifixion.
