ExploRIII 2014 Volume 2 | Page 5

Welcome to the second edition of ExploRIII! If you are new to the area or new to our magazine, this is just one method of connecting and communicating with parents, students and community members. ExploR-III is a joint effort between Lincoln County R-III District and the Lincoln County Journal. Through the support of advertisers and the paper’s access to printing, this high quality magazine is produced WITHOUT the use of tax dollars. As the 26th largest district with the largest middle school in the State of Missouri, there is certainly plenty to “explore” about our schools, our programs, our services and most importantly, our students. I received feedback after our first edition last year and found what our readers enjoyed the most! We decided to keep some pieces, such as a historical piece, as staples in the magazine and expanded our content. When you begin to “explore” R-III, I think you’ll find there’s much more to our district than you may have ever known. There’s always something to learn about the evolving world of education and student learning. ExploRIII allows you, the reader, to join the Lincoln County R-III District’s journey to becoming the PREMIER school district in the State of Missouri. I invite you to “explore” our schools and all we have to offer the community throughout the year via our district website, Facebook page, Twitter, YouTube channel, or through my semimonthly column in the Lincoln County Journal “Penny’s Two Cents.” Yours in education, Contents 3 6 History of Bonfils 4 8 9 10 12 13 Ready or Not? 15 16 18 Students with Servant Hearts Friends of R-III Reciprocal Teaching FAB 4 Homecoming Summer Math Academy Bond Issue Bright Futures Lincoln County 28 Rise of Robotics 19 21 22 23 27 24 Common Core Tapping Into The Future Main Street Learners Operation Write Home Messages To Mickey Writers Week Rolling In The Deep 30 31 A Weighty Issue Schlote Inspires Students #Trending in Technology Get Appy Student Spotlight Nathan Knox 32 39 34 36 40 42 43 44 46 Hitting a High Note Band Feature Man On A Mission Peace Scholars Mental Health Matters BSOC: Big School on Campus On The Cover Twitter.com @Linc_R3 Facebook.com/LincolnCountyR3Schools 20 Business Park Dr., Troy, MO 63379 Phone: 636-528-9550 Fax: 636-528-6694 www.lincolncountyjournal.com Publisher: Kathy Colbert Eighth grade student: Ashton Hubbard Artist: Theresa Rose Photography: Drew Tignor Writer: April Bryant, Lincoln County R-III Schools Production Manager: Sheila Jenkinson Editor: Bob Simmons Editorial Staff: Kristen Harris • Jeff Biship Graphic Designers: Angela Gronek • Amber Groeper Sales Representatives: Sue Hogarth Amanda Metcalf • Adam Simmons While every effort has been made to ensure accuracy of information contained herein, the Lincoln County Journal assumes no liability for errors or omissions.
