MADEFEATURES MADEXXXX keeping people moving now. I think that’s how we differentiate from a lot of deejays now. MADE: How important is it to stay authentic to your crowds and who you are as musicians? BLK.ID: To us it’s more than being at a club every weekend. We want our brand to be something that’s long-lasting and our sets to be something that everyone’s excited to see. So, what we try to do is involve our crowds in our sets to make them an enjoyable experience. We are granted the opportunity to entertain audiences of 2,000 or more and to get them to participate in Swag Surf or something to that magnitude makes us as deejays feel amazing. MADE: In order to generate your following and build your brand you’ve traveled around the city and beyond. What have you learned about yourselves as deejay’s and brothers? BLK.ID: Honestly, what we’ve learned about ourselves is we’re not afraid to be social and talk to people and get to know people. We’re not afraid to step out on a limb and introduce ourselves and our brand to people. We like to provide people with a genuine feeling when they come across us. As brothers, it’s been a cool journey. We’re both learning on an everyday basis to show one another things in business. We always manage to come together and help each other out to create a happy medium. MADE: You guys have mastered collaboration and partnership. How have you been able to successfully integrate fashion and music working with brands like Nike, Puma, Vans and Dash? BLK.ID: The two go hand-in-hand. You can’t really have one without the other. As deejays we wouldn’t be as appealing to anyone if we weren’t fashionable. We believe you have to be as good as you dress or even better. Working with brands they sometimes see something in you that you might not see in yourself. I think the way we integrate that is by being passionate about our style. It just made sense to us to merge our lifestyle which is fashion and music and get paid doing it. MADE: As identical twins how do you differ in your musical abilities and what type of music influences your ear? BLK.ID: We play completely different. One of us will take a trap song and mix it live with an indie beat or beat and it’ll throw everyone off but it’ll feel so good. And the other will do something completely different with a Mystikal beat and R&B song from Jodeci. Our music selections and blends are completely different. I think it’s what makes us work individually and collectively as we offer something different to each audience we entertain. Honestly, what we’ve learned about ourselves is we’re not afraid to be social and talk to people and get to know people. made-magazine.com | 32
