FROST — The Frost Polar Bears ’ hard work and hopes of making the playoffs fell short of their goal during the 2024 football season . Frost fielded its largest team in the past 20 years with 44 participants . Though competitive in each game , the Polar Bears finished 4-6 ( 3-4 ) for fifth place in District 10-2A Division II – just one district win away from a playoff berth .
During realignment , Frost was placed into one of only two eightteam districts in 2A Division II . The district featured four former state champions .
All the district ’ s playoff teams won their bi-district matchups . Gridiron heavyweight Mart , ranked no . 9 by the Associated Press , won the district .
Bremond finished Runner-up and lost in the State Semifinals to Shiner . Third place Wortham and fourth place Goldthwaite , lost in Area round games but both finished in the top 20 of MaxPreps . com poll .
Coach Phillip Gibson ’ s team energized fans with a competitive drive producing a 1,000-yard rusher and 1,000-yard passer , as well as several players nabbing post season honors .
The Polar Bears kicked off the season playing in the Ice Bowl against the Winters Blizzards in Hamilton . Though the temperature hovered near 100 degrees , each team blasted each other like opposing blue northers .
Running back Mario Porter scored on 8-yard and 50-yard touchdown runs and hauled in 19-yard and 49-yard touchdown passes from quarterback Edwin Alvarado .
