1400 Republic White-Box Prompt: Renovate a first-floor commercial space that had been vacant for over 20 years. Time Frame: 16 Weeks, Fall 2013 Synopsis: Worked in a group with five other students and an instructor to renovate the first floor of 1400 Republic in OTR. The site's first floor had been abandoned for over 20 years, so the floors had to be replaced, and we constructed structural tie-walls to correct the masonry building's lean. White-boxed the space for a future tenant while adding unique design elements, such as a boveda constructed from old floor joists and a custom address panel. The design/ build included procuring materials, construction, detailing and drawings, rapid prototyping, communication with contractors, and presenting to the Cincinnati Historic Conservation Board. Areas of Focus: -Design/ Build -Flexible programming to account for unforseen complications -On-site diagramming and construction drawings -Construction skills
