Lord, Heal the Child [Digital image]. (n.d.). Retrieved January 19, 2017, from http://www.english.illinois.edu/maps/depression/artgallery.htm
I interpreted this image to be describing the rise in passionate religious belief during the Great Depression and how many from poor and unfortunate families used their religion as a way to hope that something good might come in the future. Very particularly this sparked my interest in the rise of devout followers from previous to this, where people became much more dedicated to the specific word used. People seemed to praise much more passionately and with much more care during hard times than they did during the easier times they had previous to this. It seems the people in the painting were praying for a healthy and fortunate future which here is represented by the child. As they ask for the healing of the child they ask for the healing of their own future and prospects while things seem to get progressively worse for them in the present.
