These graphs show the assets flowing into and out of all active and passive European-domiciled equity funds over the past year ( data provided by Morningstar ).
– European and GEM equities have been the biggest winners in 2017 attracting roughly € 25bn and € 15bn respectively up to the end of July .
– Despite three months of inflows immediately following the presidential elections , US equities have since suffered outflows in every month , amounting to roughly € 9.5bn between February and July .
– Japanese equities is an interesting asset class . A few months back some good macro data came out of Japan and we have seen investment sentiment improving in several countries . More money has gone in than out of Japan in every month of 2017 bar March . Total inflows : € 4.5bn .
– Asian and frontier equities , the latter being much smaller , have also clawed back some AUM in 2017 but considerably less than their big brother GEM .
