Transformation using fact and fiction
Swamp Motel are immersive experience creators , whose work blurs the boundaries between theatre , film and gaming . Many of these projects find their homes in disused spaces in London , like Swamp Motel ’ s The Drop in October 2021 .
When audiences arrived on site , they found themselves in a slick corporate office , checked in with the receptionist and were asked to take the lift up to floor 3 for their meeting .
The shuddering lift would never reach the destination , for once inside , they were plunged into a unique immersive experience that had them foiling a heist , crawling through air vents , infiltrating the storeroom of a neighbouring perfumery , cracking safes , hacking computers , interacting with real history and uncovering a terrible secret - before exploring the local streets to meet a shadowy contact .
Only six weeks before , this neatly packaged bundle of offices , hydraulic-mounted lifts , air vents , storerooms and perfumery had been the vacant shell of a bookmakers , who had exited their high-street retail spaces after moving their business ’ online .
