Bringing untold stories to life
StoryTrails is the UK ’ s largest immersive storytelling project . Featuring thousands of immersive stories across VR , AR and 3D installations , StoryTrails trained 50 diverse creatives across the UK to combine national media archives , innovative immersive technologies and great storytelling to let audiences feel past , present and future collide in 15 locations across the country .
Led by StoryFutures Academy , the National Centre for Immersive Storytelling , run by Royal Holloway and the National Film and Television School ( NFTS ), StoryTrails combines R & D and training to create an innovative approach to immersive storytelling that lets audiences experience their hometown like never before .
The StoryTrails AR app ( available on Apple and Google App stores ) features a national network of augmented reality story trails that use cutting edge technology from Niantic to bring history to life where it happened . Online audiences can experience a unique new form of 3D filmmaking via the BFI Britain on Film site that bring contemporary stories to life through quirky 3D scans and animations of their town . Or audiences can head to their local libraries where all these experiences are made accessible and free to access alongside six ground-breaking VR stories of belonging .
StoryTrails ran a ground-breaking UK tour in the summer of 2022 , but it is still available for audiences to enjoy via the StoryTrails website ,
