Asia – Malaysia expanded its conditional movement control order ( CMCO ) to all but three of its 13 states , 9 November . MICE events are not allowed and the Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers ( MACEOS ) has appealed , claiming business events should be allowed to continue by adjusting participant numbers according to alert levels and venue size . A recent MACEOS survey estimated that business events industry companies had lost RM2.3bn ( US $ 560m ) in the Covid period since March , with 17 % of the industry ’ s workforce laid off .
World – News of a ‘ milestone ’ vaccine offering 90 % protection against Covid-19 , saw Informa as the third highest riser on the FTSE100 share index , putting on gains of over 30 % at one point before settling at 27 % up in London , 9 November . Other large events companies also saw big gains , with Compass Group the fourth highest riser and InterContinental Hotel Group seventh in the FTSE100 . Charlie McCurdy , CEO , Informa Markets , told EW : “ An effective vaccine will help to restore permissions and confidence as we look to the return of controlled in-person gatherings , such as we have seen in mainland China .”
Sydney – ICC Sydney has announced exhibitions will return to the venue , following advice from the New South Wales Department of Health . The advice stated that ICC Sydney is able to proceed with public exhibitions , subject to one person per 4sqm of space and no capacity limit . ICC Sydney will immediately move ahead and will now welcome two of Sydney ’ s most popular exhibitions - the Reed Gift Fairs and Life Instyle - in February 2021 over four days . In a stabilised year , exhibition attendees spend more than A $ 340m ( US $ 247.1m ) in the local economy .
