integrated precinct , presents a sustainable destination that offers the advantage of minimised carbon footprint .
In line with our commitment to presenting a sustainable destination , together with our precinct partners , who make up the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Business Events Alliance ( KLCCBEA ), we have been rolling out a range of initiatives to align with our sustainability goals .
Most recently we concluded the Sustainable September campaign , a month-long campaign in the precinct featuring a range of activities cutting across the environmental and social aspects of sustainability . This included the Jog for a Cause where proceeds were donated to the National Kidney Foundation .
Our national carrier , Malaysia Airlines Berhad , which is also part of the KLCCBEA , is powered by sustainable aviation fuel ( SAF ), marking their commitment to make the SAF the cleaner and more viable option for regular flights by 2025 .
Are there partnerships or collaborations with local sustainability organisations and initiatives ? Reflecting our commitment to sustainability , we formed the first public-private partnership with URBANICE MALAYSIA , a Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Cities and Community Well-Being under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government . The collaboration aimed at aligning the Centre ’ s sustainability goals and action plans to the United National Sustainable Development Goals ( UNSGD ) with strategic counsel from URBANICE Malaysia .
Most recently , the Centre inked a collaboration with the Solar Energy Research Institute ( SERI ) under the National University of Malaysia to increase industry collaboration with academia through a sustainability assessment . The findings of the assessment will further strengthen our five-year Sustainability Roadmap with specific actions to help accelerate progress towards reducing our environmental impact .
The KLCCBEA recently worked with the
World Wildlife Fund ( WWF ) to host a knowledge exchange on food waste management best practices , which addressed the end-to-end processes in procurement , production and disposal .
What are the economic benefits that KLCC has experienced as a result of its sustainability initiatives ? Economic benefits include some cost savings for both event organisers and us . Whilst we save money through more efficient food production management as part of food waste reduction and other initiatives , our organisers are benefiting from increased use of digital signage rather than printed collateral , and minimal or no carpet in exhibition aisles .
We are also enticing event organisers who are specifically seeking sustainable venues . This is helping to generate new event leads which will bring more delegates into Malaysia with these delegates contributing to the local economy through hotel bookings , restaurant stays , personal shopping , pre- / post event tourism trips etc .
