Digital transformation and hybrid events The pandemic halted live events in Taiwan . In setting up hybrid events , many organisers launched online shows . There is a strong culture of research across many academic fields such as IT and medicine , for which the island has a reputation as one of the strongest in Asia . Taiwan ’ s IT and communication , optoelectronics , semi-conductor , and bicycle industries are particularly competitive globally . Taiwan ’ s comprehensive infrastructure is designed to support them , further driving MICE business .
The public transport system , including a high-speed rail network , makes it easy for international buyers to do business in the country . Industry clusters for IT and communication in the north ; machine tools ; woodworking machines ; bicycle ; and hand tools clusters in the centre . Automobile parts / accessories ; plastic processing machines ; optoelectronics ; yachts ; the fasteners can be found in the south – and are all well connected to smooth procurement .

GDP context In 2021 , Taiwan ’ s economic growth rate was 3.11 %, GDP was US $ 669,321,000 , with an average per capita GDP of $ 28,383 . The gross national income ( GNI ) was $ 689,283,000 , with an average per capita GNI of $ 29,230 .
In terms of commodity prices , the consumer price index increased 0.06 % in December 2021 comparatively to the previous year , while the average number of employed was 11.53m as of the same period – an average rate of 3.68 %.
