How does IELA stand in terms of member numbers and finances ? Following the global impact of Covid-19 , IELA experienced a temporary decrease in membership numbers . However , we have been actively rebuilding our membership base and in the past year welcomed 11 new members .
As we look ahead to our 40th IELA Congress in Geneva next year , we are confident that we will continue to see a steady increase in our membership . Our efforts to rebuild and expand our community demonstrate the industry ’ s resilience and I am optimistic about the future of IELA .
What is IELA doing to promote the next generation in our industry and to make it an attractive career proposition ? Through our Education and Training Working Group , Sustainability Working Group , and Industry Relations Working Group , we are actively engaging with young talents and providing them with
opportunities for development .
Our upcoming initiative , the IELA Academy , will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our industry by offering comprehensive training and development programmes tailored to the needs of emerging professionals . By creating a supportive and innovative learning environment , we aim to attract and retain top talent , making a career in exhibition logistics an appealing choice for the next generation .
As event technology races ahead , how is IELA helping to share innovation among its members and what do you see as areas / products where technology is making its biggest impact ? As event technology continues to advance rapidly , including within the logistics field , IELA is committed to fostering a culture of innovation and knowledge-sharing among its members on a global scale .

How do you view IELA ’ s changing role within the wider trade fair industry . It can seem that the logistics sector is often the ‘ Cinderella ’ at the exhibition ball . I view the wider trade fair industry as a dynamic ecosystem that relies on various components , with logistics playing a pivotal yet sometimes overlooked role . At times , the logistics sector can be perceived as the ‘ Cinderella ’ at the exhibition ball , despite its critical importance in ensuring the seamless execution of events .
At IELA , we are actively working to elevate the profile of our members and highlight the significant contributions they make to the success of trade fairs worldwide .
By emphasising the essential role of logistics in event management and promoting the excellence of our members ’ services , we aim to shift the perception of logistics from being a behind-the-scenes function to a recognised and integral part of the exhibition ecosystem . Through continued collaboration , education , and industry partnerships , we are dedicated to raising awareness and appreciation for the vital role that logistics professionals play in creating exceptional event experiences .
IELA will celebrate its 40th anniversary in June 2025 , with the next annual congress taking place in Geneva . This milestone event will mark four decades of excellence and collaboration within the exhibition logistics industry . EW
