There were many visitors from China , Taiwan , and South Korea participating , and lively business negotiations took place throughout the venue , making us feel that we have almost reached the level that existed before the pandemic .
Tell us about the future programme of exhibitions planned by JMA in the year ahead , including at the Big Sight venue . In July , we will hold TECHNO- FRONTIER , which is a specialised exhibition for electronics and mechanical parts ; INDUSTRY- FRONTIER , which focuses on smart factory , maintenance and resilience , will gather products related to factory and construction .
In September , we plan to hold Logis-Tech Tokyo-INNOVATION EXPO , which is related to logistics , and INCHEM TOKYO , which is related to chemistry and plant .
In November , we have the Japan Home & Building Show , which is related to housing , architecture , and construction , and the following February , the largest specialised exhibition for hotels and restaurants in Japan , HCJ . In March , we plan to hold FOODEX JAPAN , the largest exhibition in Japan for food and beverage .
What are the main challenges for the company organising events in the new environment , post-Covid ? What about recruitment , is that harder now as many people have left the events industry , certainly in other countries ? Regarding participation and attendance , we believe that the fact that each company has not been able to engage in sufficient
business activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic has led to more active participation . Particularly , participation from overseas is more notable , and we have heard many voices expressing a desire to expand the scale of participation over the next year .
However , considering the industry as a whole , securing personnel has become a challenge . In particular , it is difficult to secure various construction workers , security personnel , and those who operate at the venue . In addition , labour costs have increased significantly . Furthermore , the prices of materials have risen due to the impact of the energy price hike .
Give us some insights into general trends in the Japanese exhibition market and MICE in general . Where is the investment in venues going and how is the industry making its mark on its return ? Are we at 2019 levels yet ? During the pandemic , many exhibitions switched from physical to online , and there was a proliferation of hybrid exhibitions that combined both . However , now it is becoming recognised that the value of physical exhibitions cannot be fully compensated for by online exhibitions . Visitors desire to see and touch products directly , and to meet and talk with exhibitors , leading to a renewed appreciation for the value of physical exhibitions . Visitor numbers are approaching levels seen in 2019 .
