EW explores some regional news highlights in the global exhibitions industry
USA – State officials in Nevada ,
USA , have loosened restrictions and increased permissable capacities for large gatherings as of 15 March . Major events can now operate on the Las Vegas strip at 50 % capacity , provided organisers get approval for their plans , which must include a Covid mitigation strategy .
Previously , large gatherings were only allowed to take place at up to 20 % capacity for venues with over 2,500 seats and conventions , conferences and tradeshows were capped at 1,000 individuals .
Mexico – The Italian Exhibition
Group and Deutsche Messe AG have signed an agreement to launch new events in Mexico .
The first will be the Active Sports Expo , in Leon , Mexico , 25-27 November 2021 . This will combine the regional knowledge Deutsche Messe has of the area , with IEG ’ s expertise in the fitness sector .
Corrado Peraboni , CEO of IEG , said : “ This collaboration between two top European players seemed the best way to tackle such a highly promising market as Mexico .”
USA – US-based International Market
Centers ( IMC ) reported positive market momentum with a return to prepandemic attendance levels at its Spring Market , which took place 1-5 March 2021 at the AmericasMart ® venue in Atlanta .
The event hosted 90,000 attendees safely with 13 markets now presented across its Atlanta , High Point and Las Vegas campuses during the pandemic . “ It ’ s poignant to mark one year of adapted markets with a return to better than pre-pandemic levels of traffic ,” said Bob Maricich , IMC CEO .
India – Messe Frankfurt India hosted its first series of live events in early March . The Indian subsidiary is taking bold steps towards resuming B2B physical platforms .
As Messe Frankfurt India ’ s first physical event in the new normal , the Natural Gas Vehicle ( NGV ) India Summit ( 4 – 5 March ) gathered 125 industry experts .
The following week , 11 – 12 March 2021 , the 5th edition of the Rail India conference galvanised discussions on the future of Indian Railways , as well as facilitating some intense networking .
