Discover Africa’s Preferred Convention Centre
Sharing a time zone with much of
Europe, Cape Town is one of the most
beautiful cities in the world. It also
boasts a convention centre that is
the preferred venue for international
conferences, congresses and
meetings. No wonder Cape Town’s
tourism industry is increasingly
bolstered by business travel.
In 2019, Cape Town was named
Africa’s Leading Festival and Event
Destination at the World Travel
Awards, while Table Mountain was
named the top tourist attraction
on the continent, and Cape Town
International Airport was named
Africa’s Leading Airport for the third
consecutive year at the Africa and
Indian Ocean World Travel Awards.
Accolades received by the Cape
Town International Convention
Centre (CTICC) included African
Business Centre of the Year (MEA
Markets Africa Business Excellence
Awards), the Delegate Choice Award
for Innovation (AIPC Innovation
Awards) and Event Greening Forum
Award – Medium Stand (Meetings
Africa 2019).
This may go some way to
explaining why, the CTICC is
the leading African venue for
international conferences, annually
hosting the most international
conferences on the continent,
according to the annual International
Congress and Convention Association
(ICCA) statistical report.
Playing into this, of course, is
the CTICC’s excellent reputation,
firm ethics, good governance and
dedication to the community within
which it operates – all predicated by
a triple bottom line approach that
puts people, planet and profit on
equal footing. There is also a firm
strategy in place that guides the
contribution that CTICC hosted events
make to Cape Town and South Africa’s
knowledge and financial economies.
All efforts to attract international
conferences and events are aligned
to the key economic sectors
identified for the province and further
augmented by the city. This advances
the knowledge economy within these
spheres while also benefiting the
local and national economy, which in
turn shapes a more prosperous future
for the citizens of the Cape Town
region.
The trade and industry fields
identified as priority future growth
sectors are; oil and gas, electricity,
education, tourism, water, health,
agro-processing, ICT, business process
outsourcing, logistiacs, renewables,
financial services, and film.
Ultimately, business events are
about people connecting and sharing
ideas, and the CTICC offers a world-
class venue, located in one of the
world’s most desirable cities for this.
The centre also showcases
impressive sustainability credentials,
an advanced ‘green’ events offering,
two beautiful, natural-light-filled
buildings, fitted to world-class
standards and linked by a Skybridge
for easy movement, it is clear that
the CTICC places people, planet and
profit at the heart of everything they
do. It is also clear that the centre
will continue attracting world-
class events, stimulating the job
market and positively impacting the
economy.
