Global Snapshot Global snapshot EW explores the highlights and goings-on circling the global exhibitions industry Las Vegas - A brand new dedicated exhibition space, Pop Vegas, will open early this year at The LINQ Promenade in Las Vegas. It will encompass indoor exhibition space, designed to house a rotating line-up of changing exhibitions themed around exciting pop-culture topics and trends. Pop-up museums that provide guests with immersive experiences and dynamic visual elements intended to be photographed - and shared on social media - have become immensely popular in the last two years. Pop Vegas is the first permanent venue created specifically to house an ongoing rotation of this new kind of exhibit. It will partner with local artists, performers and other personalities to engage in live performances. Toronto - The Board of Directors of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre Corporation has announced the appointment of General Manager Lorenz Hassenstein to the position of President & CEO. The move is part of succession planning, as incumbent Barry Smith steps down on 1 February, 2019. Hassenstein joined as GM a year ago, and has more than 23 years of experience in general management, trade/consumer event management and strategic business development. He was previously GM in Philadelphia, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. 8 Issue 1 2019 Colombia - Madrid-based organiser IFEMA is to run a Latin American edition of its International Safe and Sustainable Mobility Exhibition, TRAFIC, in Medellín, Colombia, from 13-15 June. The new event will be a collaboration with Plaza Mayor Medellín. The original ‘mothership’ show, TRAFIC 2019, will run 8-11 October 2019, at Feria de Madrid fairgrounds, where it has celebrated its last 15 editions. With this new international expansion project, IFEMA will increase its presence in Latin America. Paris - Venue collection Viparis has unveiled its first solar advertising tarpaulin, installed on the Paris Nord Villepinte gallery’s glass façade. The company says Paris Nord Villepinte is the world’s first exhibition complex to test such a system, designed to reduce the ecological footprint. This pilot project, created in collaboration with ENGIE Entreprises & Collectivités, is part of Viparis’ commitment to its CSR initiative, Better Events Viparis 2030, launched in 2018. w w w.exhibitionworld.co.uk
