Malaysia moves with momentum
National convention bureau MyCEB shares its latest statistics which point to a positive momentum as events return in Malaysia

Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau ( MyCEB ), together with industry partners , stage 152 business events that included meetings , conventions , exhibitions , corporate incentives , and international sporting events . That was despite the unprecedented crisis due to the Covid pandemic . MyCEB managed to bring in an accumulative total of 402,320 delegates to the country out of which 92,000 were international . The estimated economic impact generated from the year is put at some RM1.23bn ( US $ 290m ), an upturn and indication that the business events industry is picking up pace for recovery .
Ushering in 2023 , MyCEB , along with the industry stakeholders , are ready to stage 35 business event activities so far at least , anticipating to welcome over 40,000 local and international delegates and thus translating into RM390m in estimated economic impact .
Looking further ahead , as the national bureau welcomes a fresh year of opportunities ahead , MyCEB has successfully secured future events to be hosted in the period 2023 – 2030 . With 88 business events activities in the pipeline , Malaysia is expecting to welcome 104,834 delegates over this period with an estimated economic impact of RM1.47bn to the country ’ s economy . The numbers recorded are , moreover , forecast to increase , reflecting a positive momentum . Meanwhile , the exhibition industry scene in Malaysia has been moving ahead well and , since MyCEB ’ s establishment , the bureau has managed to support more than 230 exhibitions , which successfully gathered an estimation of 2.3m
Exhibition figures continue to bounce back in Malaysia visitors , contributing around RM5.8bn in estimated economic impact .
Malaysia ’ s line-up of events secured includes Intelligent Marketing 2023 , due to take place in March 2023 , WEPACK ASEAN 2023 , as well as Food and Drinks Malaysia 2023 . All are anticipated to be staged in July 2023 . From these three exhibitions alone , Malaysia is expected to welcome a total number 8,000 visitors that will translate into RM26.57m in estimated economic impact .
At the 89th UFI Global Congress 2022 in Oman , MyCEB officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU ) with the global association of the exhibition industry to introduce the UFI Certified Professional ( UCP ) qualification in Malaysia . With such collaborations , MyCEB is projecting that the number of exhibitions taking place in the country will continue to grow to greater heights .
In December 2022 , MyCEB welcomed the UFI managing director and CEO , Kai Hattendorf , and other business events stakeholders to the UFI Expert Day 2022 . This insightful session was also the occasion for announcing MyCEB ’ s hosting of the UFI Asia Pacific Conference 2023 that shall be staged 2-3 March 2023 in the capital , Kuala Lumpur . Conference organisers expect approximately 250 local and international delegates from across Asia to attend with more than 20 countries represented .
