Cameron Roberts analyses the new sectors for Abu Dhabi ' s growing events market and how a combination of top-class venues and government support makes the emirate primed to expand in key markets
“ Healthcare , pharma , energy , construction and manufacturing are just a few of the multitude of sectors being invested in by the emirate government .” for example , healthcare spending was projected to account for 4.6 % of the country ’ s GDP by 2026 , up from 4.27 % in 2018 . This combined with world-class conference centres hosting events with thousands of delegates means that Abu Dhabi can be a hub for healthcare through leadership .
It ’ s these world-class facilities which attract big numbers and top-class speakers . World Energy Congress 2019 , for example , reportedly hosted 18,000 attendees , two heads of state and 110 energy leaders . Once again , however , the emirate ’ s leadership plays a big part in pushing the agenda , with Abu Dhabi aiming to increase the contribution of clean energy in the total energy mix from 25 % cent to 50 % by 2050 according to its energy strategy .
Abu Dhabi presents the perfect storm to explore new industries , top venues and exhibition centres which attract big delegate numbers and high-class speakers are combined with government initiatives to highlight key sectors for expansion . This commitment to new industries is exemplified in the destination ’ s events , with Middle East Design & Build Week ( MEDBW ) and Middle East Manufacturing and Technology Expo ( MEMT ) being large-scale events to highlight their respective sectors . The events will take place 5-7 December 2022 .
Mohamed Helal Al Mheiri , director general , Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry stated , “ Organising the MEDBW and
MEMT translates the efforts of the Chamber to realising the national industrial strategies by providing the necessary support for the private sector to be a key player in the fourth industrial revolution and to fortify the place of the UAE in general and Abu Dhabi in particular on the world map as a centre for sciences and advanced industries over the next decade .”
The theme continues with numerous other sectors : for energy , there ’ s the World Energy Congress ; and for pharma and healthcare , there ’ s the World Immunisation Logistics Summit .
