The committee developed the overall WUF10 vision and strategy in line with both the Abu Dhabi and the UAE Vision . A secondary function was setting up the Local Organising Committee , a cross-government taskforce , to ensure that the Forum benefited from full government support to deliver the most successful World Urban Forum to date .
Cities Investment Platform The Cities Investment Platform , which was launched at WUF10 , brought together cities and investors . City leaders pitched projects to panels of investors who offered feedback on the projects ’ investability . It was the ‘ proof-of-concept ’ for a new initiative being piloted at UN-Habitat , the Cities Investment Facility ( CIF ).
A key goal of the CIF programme is to build capacity in local governments in areas such as project preparation and capital mobilisation .
Arab Emirates in 2008 because of its great cultural and traditional significance and its suitability to the UAE ’ s desert environment .
Public Art for Abu Dhabi A large piece of art was unveiled to commemorate the co-operation between UN-Habitat and the city of Abu Dhabi . Named Forever Bicycles , the sculpture was designed by renowned artist Ai Weiwei and comprised 720 stainless steel bicycles .
Launch of the WUF Exhibition and WUF Alumni The inspiring history of the WUF since its first meeting was marked during the Tenth Session by an exhibition and video documentary on past sessions and the launch of the WUF Alumni Network
WUF10 provided a platform for all parties to commit to specific actions to contribute to the
SDGs and sustainable urban development .
The emirate has also been practising what the WUF preaches and Abu Dhabi has made rapid strides to become a more discernibly planned city thanks to regional plans for the Capital , Al Ain , Al Dhafra and for its immense maritime domain .
In accordance with the UAE Centennial Plan 2071 and the goals of the National Agenda 2021 , Abu Dhabi aims to raise its standards to the highest international benchmarks in sustainable urban development . To achieve this , the emirate has been implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals . Over the next five years , there are plans to provide sustainable homes with allocated plots for 45,000 UAE nationals across Abu Dhabi region .
In terms of urban planning , over 300 initiatives were launched , as part of the Ghadan 21 ( Tomorrow 21 ) government accelerator programme , designed to transform Abu Dhabi into one of the world ’ s most liveable cities .
Tree-planting week As part of the WUF legacy initiative , the 2020 UAE tree-planting week began on the sidelines of WUF10 . The legacy initiative was organised by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment , in partnership with UN-Habitat and the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport . Many WUF10 delegates joined a group of ministers at a tree planting ceremony which took place at Old Airport Park in Abu Dhabi on 12 February 2020 .
Dignitaries and delegates planted some 400 seedlings of the indigenous Ghaf tree . The Ghaf was declared the national tree of the United
