30 UNDER THIRTY
Tommy Fisher
Senior marketing executive, Clarion Events
Nomination: “Tommy started off 2016 successfully applying for the
marketing executive role on DSEI. The marketing manager at the time then
left Clarion Events for pastures new in Tommy’s first few weeks and he was
required to hold the fort for six months. He was rewarded for his endeavours
with a promotion to senior marketing executive in January 2017, a role he
has relished since attaining. Tommy has also excelled on his day-to-day
work on DSEI and has shown himself to be motivated by teamwork rather
than personal gain.”
In five years’ time: I will be developing the next generation of events
professionals. (Though it may be showing them how not to do it!)

Event executive – New Scientist Live, New Scientist
Nomination: It was amazing to be part of the event launch team at one of
the most recognisable science titles in the world. My biggest accolade for the
2016 event was landing Shell. After their initial reluctance I ended up at one
of their large public events, in the rain, waiting to speak to the chairman of
the company. After managing to speak to him for a few moments regarding
New Scientist Live we exchanged details. Six weeks after that they booked
onto one of the largest stands at the show.
In five years’ time: I hope to be heading up a New Scientist Live in another
country. We are a global brand with interest and following from the public
all other the world. I also want to be able to highlight to young women in the
exhibition industry that it’s not a man’s game and all it takes is determination
to achieve, confidence to stand up and thick skin to endure to make it.
Chris Hall
Event director, Upper Street Events
Nomination: I have been promoted three times in three years, moving
from sales manager to event director, as well as starting a new cross
company role as Exhibitor Insight director. While event director of New
Designers the combined team effort resulted in going £52,201.49 over target
in 2016 (having been under in 2015).
In five years’ time: I will be achieving targets, hitting overage, making
opportunities, staying ahead in the industry, bringing exhibitors and visitors
together, seeking growth potential, maximising sponsorships, brining in new
visitors, retaining existing exhibitors and, of course, having fun!
