Phil Soar confirmed as latest
EN guest editor
CloserStill Group chairman Phil Soar has taken over the role as guest editor of Exhibition News ( EN ), following on from AEO chairman Simon Parker . Soar , who is also chairman of Nineteen Events and Brand Events , is one of the exhibition industry ’ s leading figures , with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the sector ’ s mechanics . Upon taking on the guest editorship of EN , Soar said : “ I could never hope to compare with [ previous guest editors ] Simon Parker or Ruth Carter as guest editor , for one thing I don ’ t have four identical letters in my surname , but I shall try to cover some of my personal obsessions . These include the role of private equity , the death of competent government , why we as a sector don ’ t research our industry and can ’ t add up the numbers when we do , why civil servants think tradeshows are the same as Glastonbury , and when Crossrail will finally be open .” Julian Agostini , Mash Media ’ s MD , added that he was delighted to have Soar on board . He said : “ Phil has always been one of the great thinkers and commentators for our industry . As regular readers will know , EN has often called on his knowledge for columns , articles , and features . “ To invite Phil to be guest editor of EN seemed a completely logical and natural choice for Mash Media . We are delighted he has accepted and look forward to his rich and inimitable insights over the coming months .”
EN editorial director Martin Fullard will continue to oversee the daily operation of the magazine and website .
