TALENT AND RECRUITMENT

Diversity It wasn ’ t a surprise , but it is still pretty disheartening to see that more than 90 % of our survey was white so we are a predominantly straight , white and ablebodied industry which as we all know , needs constant attention to bring in line with the UK demographic .
Conclusion I found it interesting to see that it was a 50 / 50 split between those that were happy with their salary and those that weren ’ t . Everyone is worried about cost of living and we often hear that companies are focusing on rebuilding and therefore aren ’ t paying well so it ’ s good to see that nearly half of respondents are happy with their salaries . I also found that this figure confirms something that I ’ ve been saying for a while ; that employee satisfaction is not just about salary , flexible working and training were key
“ Salary is still most important when choosing a new role , but very closely followed by the opportunity to work from home ...” too . Employers have far more than money in their armoury to ensure that their employees are happy , for example a few extra days holiday would give over a third of employees a good work life balance but have minimal impact on a company ’ s profitability .
Over the coming months , we will be taking a deep dive into the to look at how location and job title affects salaries and to see how age and ethnicity affect the findings . Look out for further features exploring and cross referencing the results in more detail .

“ Many organisations are doing better than before the pandemic , but many aren ’ t using those resources to retain or better the workplace for their employees via higher salaries , wellbeing programmes , EDI training etc . The survey results show that 90 % of the industry is white but 75 % of the UK population is white , and furthermore , in London , fewer than half the population is white . Agencies are mostly based in London and the South East , which means we should expect to see more diversity in agencies to reflect that , so there ’ s a massive disconnect here .” Gabby Austen-Browne , founder , Diversity Alliance
“ Most of the findings were reflective of what we are seeing amongst our colleague population and industry at large , however it was surprising to see the percentage of companies who are only just accelerating their recruitment efforts . We have been recruiting new talent since the beginning of 2022 , with a blend of roles supporting the positive recovery of events and new exciting disciplines to support further growth and ongoing innovation .” Thomas Humphris , Human Resources Director , Informa
“ The findings from the survey have been fascinating and reassuring at the same time . For an industry that has historically been seen as a ‘ young person ’ s industry ,’ it is good to see more long- term thinking with nearly a third of people now getting above the minimum pension . This is a small change that positions the events industry as a serious career choice and not just a series of jobs .” Laura Capell-Abra , Founder , Stress Matters
