News Feature 1. Andreas Georgiou 1. The reason why I have decided to join the support line is because I find the work deeply valuable and important. I can honestly see the integrity of the work and the value that it has for people who need support. Having only been in the industry a short time, I can already see the impact stress has on this industry; it is clear support is needed. With a genuine interest in people’s health and mental wellness - having the opportunity to volunteer for the Stress Matters line and assist where I can, is a great opportunity. This is a tough time for everyone, and I am grateful to have the chance to provide support to those who really need it. 2. 2. Laila Datoo This is a challenging industry at the best of times. Right now it is so tough that some people are finding it really hard to navigate. Being able to signpost people during chats to the resources and professionals that might help them feels like a small way to give back to the industry. It can be hard to listen to some of the stories, but my aim is to just be there to listen to them. We all need an ear sometimes, and in an environment where we can’t give someone a hug, it’s a good way to offer some support. 3. Who is the helpline for? » People worried about someone else, they may have noticed changes in their behaviour or emotions » For those that are struggling with being isolated and are feeling lonely » People in the industry that are concerned about their financial security and that of their family due to changes in their work » Individuals feeling low and don’t know how to talk to people they are close to about it » Those that are feeling persistently anxious 3. James Capell-Abra Kindness is the main reason why I wanted to volunteer on the Stress Matters Support Line. Kindness is extremely contagious, so being kind to just one person has enormous power to spread kindness across the industry, within our families and communities and even across the world. If there is one thing the world could do with right now, it’s that. It’s a resource that we all have at our disposal and I’ve found that practicing it by volunteering during these uncertain times has also helped me to manage my own wellbeing. “One company owner was devastated that he was having to make half his company redundant” May — 15
