The reason why I have decided to join
the support line is because I find the
work deeply valuable and important.
I can honestly see the integrity of
the work and the value that it has for
people who need support. Having only
been in the industry a short time, I
can already see the impact stress has
on this industry; it is clear support
is needed. With a genuine interest in
people’s health and mental wellness -
having the opportunity to volunteer
for the Stress Matters line and assist
where I can, is a great opportunity. This
is a tough time for everyone, and I am
grateful to have the chance to provide
support to those who really need it.

This is a challenging industry at the
best of times. Right now it is so tough
that some people are finding it really
hard to navigate. Being able to signpost
people during chats to the resources
and professionals that might help them
feels like a small way to give back to
the industry. It can be hard to listen
to some of the stories, but my aim
is to just be there to listen to them.
We all need an ear sometimes, and in
an environment where we can’t give
someone a hug, it’s a good way to offer
some support.

Who is the helpline for?
» People worried about someone else,
they may have noticed changes in their
behaviour or emotions
» For those that are struggling with being
isolated and are feeling lonely
» People in the industry that are concerned
about their financial security and that of
their family due to changes in their work
» Individuals feeling low and don’t know how
to talk to people they are close to about it
» Those that are feeling persistently anxious

Kindness is the main reason why I
wanted to volunteer on the Stress
Matters Support Line. Kindness is
extremely contagious, so being kind to
just one person has enormous power
to spread kindness across the industry,
within our families and communities
and even across the world. If there is
one thing the world could do with right
now, it’s that. It’s a resource that we all
have at our disposal and I’ve found that
practicing it by volunteering during
these uncertain times has also helped
me to manage my own wellbeing.
