Be prepared
W
hat worries me (and the nation) is what kind of deal
Boris is going to strike with the EU, and what impact
that will have on me, my children and the industry I work
for. For the past few months I’ve been reading a plethora
of government strategies and plans; some impressive, and
some that – to be frank – aren’t worth the paper they’re
printed on. For this country to get the best deal out of
negotiations with the EU and beyond, we have to firstly
understand: what are all the challenges for our industry?
What are the risks?
It’s basic stuff, and no different than when you go
fully prepared into a meeting. You know your goals,
the risks, you have a clear strategy for what you want
to get out of it and most of all, you should know your
business inside out. I believe that the exhibition
industry isn’t fully recognised by government. I
also believe that we should have our own dedicated
minister, and that the government is guilty of
producing a half-baked plan without appreciating the
potential of our industry – see cover story.
