Ch-ch-ch-ch- changes

The problem with print is by the time you read this the world will have undoubtedly moved on . But today ( 1 June ) our world feels a little bit better . We have run A-Livex at Royal Lancaster London , showing the world that live events can be run safely and successfully , and the Mash Media team were last week on-site at the Event Production Show ( which looked amazing ). DSEI , a barometer for our sector , has announced that it will run a live event in September and all seems right with the world . As we plan for what will undoubtedly be a very busy six months it is worth reflecting on what we have been through and what opportunities lie ahead . Our business is in constant flux , the world of events is never the same from one day to the next , and that quite frankly is why we love it .

It is also why we love International Confex , which is our lead feature . International Confex has been through more transformations than Bowie and continues to evolve to meet our exacting requirements . I had chance to speak to a number of what I termed the ‘ Confex Allstars ’, people who have given their hearts and souls to the show so that we might enjoy it . What is clear from them all is how much they loved their time on it , how their careers were to some extent defined by it and , in one person ’ s case , how he nearly killed it …
This issue also features a piece on how FDs are really running the events world ( despite their firm protestations to the contrary ), an interview with Phil Soar , who probably has more rights to the term ‘ industry stalwart ’ than anyone , and a piece on Olympia , including an interview with the evergreen Nigel Nathan . I also had the great pleasure to speak with Heidi Williams about a new social group for marketeers , Lori Hoinkes about the fantastic Women in Exhibitions initiative and Paul Byrom about the re-branding of River Street and Upper Street as Immediate Live – phew , that ’ s a lot of content .
Enjoy the issue , and see you at International Confex ,
