News Cvent acquires DoubleDutch Cvent has announced that it has acquired event management software provider DoubleDutch, based in San Francisco. The acquisition of DoubleDutch highlights Cvent’s investment in the mobile technology space and will complement the company’s signature mobile event app and onsite solution capabilities. “We are excited to add DoubleDutch to the Cvent family,” added Reggie Aggarwal, CEO and founder of Cvent. “By adding DoubleDutch’s industry expertise to Cvent, we accelerate our investment in mobile event technology. We are also proud to welcome the talented DoubleDutch team to our more than 4,000 Cventers worldwide. Together, we will continue to drive innovation in how attendees engage at events.” EN Indy Awards 2019 opens for entries Entries are open for the second edition of the EN Indy Awards, an awards launched by EN to celebrate the UK’s smaller, independent exhibition organisers. The EN Indys are open to organising companies with a turnover of less than £7.5m, or to companies for whom exhibitions contribute less than £7.5m per annum. They will be held for the second time at the Honourable Artillery Company in London on 11 October. The deadline for entries is Friday 16 August. The Association of Event Venues (AEV) has released the fifth edition of its annual Size and Scale Index for events report. Number of exhibitions • In 2018, there were an estimated 1,077 exhibitions hosted by the UK’s main exhibition venues Tarsus Group to be acquired by Charterhouse Tarsus Group is set to be acquired by PE firm Charterhouse, which sold Comexposium in March 2019, for approximately £561m.The terms of the acquisition imply an enterprise value of £668m. Tarsus operates in the United States and the Americas, China, South East Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Turkey and Europe, in verticals including aviation, medical, labels and packaging, travel and automotive. It runs more than 160 events including Labelexpo, Connect and the Dubai Airshow. Neville Buch, Tarsus chairman, commented: “We believe that the acquisition provides significant value for Tarsus’s shareholders, whilst ensuring that Tarsus can continue its journey as a leading exhibitions business with an owner that can provide the capital and industry experience to support Tarsus’s future growth. Exhibition duration • The average exhibition occupied a venue for 4-7 days, open for 2.4 days • The most common length was two days Visitor numbers • Exhibitions attracted an estimated 9.06m visitors in 2018 • Of that, 70 per cent came from consumer shows, 26 per cent from trade shows • Exhibitions on average attracted 8,400 visits The report is available free to AEV, AEO and ESSA members at aev.org.uk
