New year, new you?
Event Careers Live is a new platform for the event industry
T
he UK’s first dedicated
event for people seeking
to work in or improve their
careers in the exhibition
industry launches this
January.
Event Careers Live will
feature a number of leading
companies who will be
recruiting at the event,
including Clarion Events,
Easyfairs, Cvent, GES, drp
Group, Nineteen Events and
Hyve Group.
The event aims to help
young event professionals
to learn more about the
industry and plan out their
career journey, by covering
a range of roles including
marketing, sales, operations,
and creative roles with
insight into how to pursue
each route. The show will
consist of a combination of
panel and campfire sessions
and one-to-one mentoring
with experts.
Key speakers include
James Rees, the President of
The International Congress
and Convention Association
(ICCA) and Executive
Director of ExCeL, and Tim
Collett, head of live events
for WRG Live. The duo,
joined by many other leading
recruitment experts, will
guide candidates through
the many opportunities
the industry has to offer
in a series of ‘campfire’
sessions, which aims to
create a much more informal
and relaxed approach to
recruitment. Panel sessions
will be covering topics
such as ‘Switching career
paths in the event industry’
providing practical advice
on switching roles with
Simon Mills the executive
director for ExCel London
and Pauline Fischer the
manager of global accounts
for HelmsBriscoe.
Another session is ‘What
it takes to organise and
deliver big events’, where
the panel will discuss what
skills are needed to deliver
big festivals, exhibitions and
corporate events such as
Taste of London, Top Gear
Live and Fast and Furious
Live. Matt Franks, director
of events at drp, will also
talk about the changing face
of internal corporate events
and the new skills required
as they become more like
festivals.
The UK has some of the
biggest event businesses
headquartered here and is
at the heart of major global
events. The UK events
industry is worth £42.3
billion and provides 570,000
full time jobs. Event Careers
Live is designed to not only
help nurture professionals
that are currently working
in events, but also to attract
graduates into our industry.
