Event News Events in brief Recent events - quickfire round The Battery Technology Show set record-breaking figures following a move from ExCeL London to the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. The show doubled its exhibitor numbers to over 60, and increased its visitors by 30 per cent as compared to 2018’s show; reaching over 1,000. Harrogate Convention Centre has confirmed a new three-year deal to continue hosting the Homebuilding & Renovating Show. The deal secures the event in Harrogate until 2022. The Casual Dining Show has made its first announcement regarding the keynote speakers at their 2020 show. Those announced are James Spragg and Steve Holmes, the CEOs of Casual Dining Group (CDG) and Azzurri Group, and David Campbell, executive chairman at Bill’s Restaurants. The first-ever Sportswear Pro event has announced its growing line-up of participating exhibitors and official support from AFYDAD, the Spanish Sports Association. Companies showcasing their latest innovations in manufacturing technology at the event include FK Group Spa, Tajima DST, Perma Press AB, Caron Technology and Gemini CAD. Innovations include fabric cutting equipment, heat transfer systems and automatic spreaders and loading systems. 10 — December ANOTHER YEAR OF SUCCESS FOR PET SHOW BIG PLANS FOR BIG DATA Name: National Pet Show Date: 2-3 November 2019 Where: NEC Birmingham Name: Big Data LDN Date: 19 November 2019 Where: Olympia London Six years ago, Fitz Media saw a gap in the market and launched the National Pet Show, an event aimed at educating visitors on how to be responsible pet owners. As the largest consumer pet show in the UK, the National Pet Show attracts over 200 exhibitors per year, as well as sponsorship from leading pet industry names. This year saw a 25 per cent increase in visitor ticket sales from 2018- 2019, as well as 26,321 attendees, making it the largest National Pet Show. The show features a range of talks from industry experts, and real-life animal demonstrations. This year, there were 120 different dog and cat breeds for visitors to interact with. Other features included the Animal Rescue Barn, where local charities brought a selection of dogs, rabbits, hens and more that attendees could adopt, as well as talks from TV personalities Michaela Strachan, Noel Fitzpatrick, James Bowen & his Street Cat named Bob and stuntman Ben Atkinson. Big Data LDN was created for modern data professionals, as events for those in the data industry were either small, expensive conferences or add-on zones in existing wider IT events. The show aims to addresses anything that individuals need to know if they are using or plan to use data to advance their business. For 2019, Big Data LDN added an extra theatre to their agenda, increasing their content by 25 per cent. The headline keynote was Christopher Wylie, the man who blew the whistle on Cambridge Analytica. Managing director of Big Data LDN, Bill Hammond said: “We were excited about this as that was a real watershed moment around the world which made individuals and companies alike take notice and realise the significance of data.” The event’s total audience was 9,150 people, a 34 per cent increase on 2018’s event. Hammond said of the event’s success: “It’s been said that ‘data is the new oil’ and in recent years that seems to be becoming more and more apparent. Companies are transforming to become Data Driven.” What’s next? Head of marketing at Fitz All Media, Emily Foulkes, said: “We have exciting plans for 2020 with a brand-new launch, so watch this space.” What’s next? In September 2020, Big Data LDN will be moving to Grand Hall Olympia.
