Stax ranking shows organiser revenue recovery

A ranking of exhibition organisers shows huge gains for two companies and significant signs of recovery as revenues close in on 2019 levels

Global strategy consultancy Stax , which acquired London-based exhibition industry specialists AMR International in 2022 , has released its Stax Top 20 Ranking of Exhibition Organisers by 2022 Revenues . The Stax Top 20 Ranking evaluates the foremost players in the events industry , solely based on their exhibition organising revenues throughout 2022 . and other revenue sources . The ranking was previously recognised as the AMR Top 20 Ranking . There have been some changes in the top five compared to last year . Informa and RX retain their top two spots . Clarion and Messe München have risen in the rankings due to robust post-Covid recovery and biennial event schedules , respectively . Ascential and CloserStill make their debut in the Top 20 Rankings , while
NürnbergMesse rejoins the list . On the other hand , CCPIT , Shanghailisted DLG Exhibitions , and Fiera Milano have dropped out of the top list . Tarsus is placed 17th on the 2022 list and will drop out next year following its acquisition by Informa . Messe Düsseldorf emerges as the largest gainer , jumping an impressive nine places to 8th from 17th , closely followed by Easyfairs , which advanced to 11th from 19th . Both organisers witnessed a remarkable surge in their organising revenues , more than doubling compared to the previous year . In alphabetical order , the seven next largest organisers outside this year ’ s Stax Top 20 Rankings include Arc Network , the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade ( CCPIT ), the Consumer Technology Association ( CTA ), dmg events , Fira de Barcelona , the Hong Kong Trade Development Council ( HKTDC ), and Italian Exhibition Group . When comparing with 2019 revenue levels , there is evident and substantial recovery observed , marking a notable contrast to the previous two years characterised by extensive Covidrelated restrictions . Carole Boletti , associate director at Stax and co-editor of Globex , says : “ In 2022 , the Top 20 Ranking demonstrated a return closer to the pre-Covid composition . However , recovery levels varied among organisers based on their sector and geographical exposure . Overall , the aggregate revenue of the Top 20 reached approximately 70 % of the 2019 levels .” Boletti further states : “ We anticipate further transformations next year as most organisers have resumed full exhibition calendars in 2023 . There is a consensus that the post-Covid rebound has surpassed expectations , suggesting that complete recovery could be realised by 2023 or 2024 .” EN
