Colombia is a megadiverse country, with a great variety of birds, a good number of mammals, reptiles, amphibians etc. Despite being a very small country, it has the second place in species of flora and fauna in the world. That is why it is considered a megadiverse country. But a lot of scientists have said that humans have radically accelerated the extinction process in the wild life, and if it continues that way, it will be the end because of us. That is why we need to take care of the biodiversity, if we want to conserve it.
Colombia is the second most biodiverse country in the world, because ecologists and scientists have proved that in Colombia there are more than 2.000 species of birds, and that equals the amount of variety of birds from Europe and North America combined. It is also proved that the Colombian fauna is the 10% of the total fauna of the world. Colombia also has the biggest flying bird, the Andes Condor, whose wings measure approximately 3 meters long. That equals two 1.5 meters tall people.
Colombia is very rich in moorlands, which is an ideal environment for species of fauna like the huge mountain tapir, the great Mountain Toucan or the spectacled bears. It also has a part of the Amazon, not very big, but Colombia conserves it very well, and takes care of the species like the pink dolphin, which is only found in the Amazon regions from Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, and Peru. This proves the Colombian richness in flora and fauna.
However, there are many problems like the ambition of humans to get the power and cool stuff. The process of extinction has been accelerated because of mining, which has killed a lot of wild life, not to mention that it wastes thousands of liters of water, and that it affects a lot during the seasons. Cutting trees also affects the climatic change, as well as the ambition for cars and their smoke that intoxicates the animals, or the ambition for clothing made of animals fur, not because of weather reasons, but because it is expensive, which does not matter, because life is way more worthy than all money in the world.
In conclusion, life is a right that all of us have, including animals. Colombia is a megadiverse country and all of us can contribute to protect it by doing little actions like not buying clothes made of animal fur, or collecting rain water to water the plants or flushing the toilets. The compromise to keep Colombia as a megadiverse country is ours.
