Discover the new Yallamundi Rooms
at Sydney Opera House
There are now more opportunities to meet at one of the world’s
most iconic buildings, in the brand-new Yallamundi Rooms
The monumental sails of the Sydney
Opera House are an internationally
recognised icon of modern Australia.
Over 10 million visitors make the
journey to Bennelong Point every year
to marvel at the Opera House’s beauty
and scale.
The Sydney Opera House is the
centre of Australian arts, theatre
and music. Home to seven flagship
Australian performing arts companies,
including The Australian Ballet, Opera
Australia and the Sydney Symphony
Orchestra, the halls of the Opera House
are graced by some of the world’s finest
artists, actors and musicians.
Not only does the Opera House
represent the peak of Australian
creativity and modernity, but it also
has a variety of spectacular event
spaces. In April this year Sydney Opera
House opened the doors of its latest
addition, the Yallamundi Rooms.
The name Yallamundi means
‘storyteller’ in the local Sydney
Indigenous language. Bennelong Point,
where the Opera House sits, has a
history that stretches back well before
the iconic structure was built. For
thousands of years Bennelong Point has
been the meeting place for the original
custodians of the area, the Gadigal.
The Yallamundi Rooms were named to
celebrate and carry on the tradition of
stories and songs told on the Point.
Carefully designed to match their
World Heritage listed architectural
significance, the all-weather venue
retains significant features by both
Opera House architects, Jørn Utzon and
Peter Hall, including concrete walls,
white birch moulded timber ‘wobbly’
panels and pink granite terrazzo floor,
to create a signature space within the
Opera House that’s perfect for events.
The brand-new space is designed
for a range of meetings and events,
with flexible and configurable rooms
that can suit up to 400 people standing,
or 180 seated. Conferences, product
launches, end of year celebrations and
cocktail functions are just some of
the events the Yallamundi Rooms can
accommodate. With floor-to-ceiling
windows that offer unrivalled sweeping
views of Sydney Harbour and state of
the art AV technology, delegates are
sure to be entirely captivated by any
event at the Yallamundi Rooms.
The new venue is managed by
operator Trippas White Group and
their Ambassador Chef, Karen Martini.
The hatted chef brings a new vision to
the Opera House’s dining offerings,
drawing on her extensive professional
cooking career, family influences and
Tunisian-Italian heritage.
“The Opera House is a symbol of
modern Australia and that has been a
big inspiration for me personally. We
are sourcing incredible produce from
all around the country to create dishes
that emulate the visual beauty of the
Australian outback. By using native
produce we want to compose a truly
contemporary Australian menu worthy
of our nation’s icon. We’re so excited
to be working with the Opera House
to create a unique events experience
in one of the world’s most spectacular
locations,” Ms Martini said.
The Opera House also offers other
unique venue and event spaces
including the Utzon Room, Joan
Sutherland Theatre Northern Foyer and
the Concert Hall Northern Foyer. S
