Pioneering NGO transformation to Social
Enterprise in Indonesia
During the alumni seminar, Lanny
Jauhari shared with us her story,
looking for ways to make a difference
to the lives of disadvantaged
communities. She walked us through
her journey of looking at various
sectors (profit and non-profit) for ways
to contribute to development impact
and how she finally ended up at social
entreprises.
Lanny then presented her work as
program manager for TORAJAMELO,
a distinguished social enterprise
model company-cum-foundation
that works with marginalised rural
women weaver artisans Indonesia.
The organization’s objective is
to create a more inclusive and
sustainable economy for poor women
in Indonesia, particularly traditional
weavers, and to rejuvenate the
production of Indonesian indigenous
hand-woven cloth. Besides her work at
Torajamelo, she also started her own
social entreprise.
The seminar (on 30 May 2016) was
followed by an alumni meet and greet
reception, allowing IOB students,
staff and alumni to catch up with each
other or to get to know each other.
Happy (re)-encounters!

Alumni seminar
To learn about what our alumni are working on, IOB organised - for the fourth time already an alumni seminar. A call for applications was launched among former IOB students to come
to Antwerp and present their work and the development impact it has generated. We received
35 applications, almost all very interesting and impact generating projects and work. It truly
was very interesting and heartwarming to see all the development-related work alumni
are carrying out around the globe! Unfortunately only one submission could be selected for
the seminar. However, other alumni’s work will be provided via other IOB fora (IOB posters
presented at the alumni seminar, on the website, …). Ms. Lanny Jauhari (alumna Globalisation
and Development 2010-11) was selected to present at the 2016 alumni seminar on 30 May 2016.
