“If adventures will not befall a young lady in her own village, she must seek them abroad.”
-Jane Austen
Meet Nikki Culbertson! She spent the first 12 years of her education being homeschooled and then earned an Art degree here at Mineral Area College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History at the University of Missouri – St. Louis.
She has worked as a Tutor in the EXCEL office off and on since 2015. In addition, she works as a private tutor for middle and grade school students.
Nikki is the second-oldest of 10 children, so she has an abundance of experience with tutoring and mentoring. She is passionate about education and encouraging students to enjoy the learning process while helping them get the support they need for their learning styles. She has a strong curiosity about the world and is an advocate for challenging students to step out of their comfort zones and learn new things about the people and places around them.
She enjoys making various types of art, including drawing, watercolors, wood-burning, and calligraphy. She has also extended her artistic skills to baking, making fancy cakes and cookies. Nikki also enjoys reading everything she can get her hands on and being outside in the summertime.
She is also an avid traveler and has been to 15 different countries, including studying abroad during two short-term trips to Costa Rica, and an entire semester in Barcelona, Spain.
One of Nikki's interests is calligraphy. Here's a compilation showing different techniques with glass pens.
