The Caravan industry Association Victoria:
Daniel Sahlberg introduced himself as being a representative for the Caravan Industry
Association Victoria, he came to the meeting to help explain some of the misconceptions a
lot of people have had with the industry, and more importantly to help explain where it will be
heading in the future; especially when a whopping 92% of caravans are made in Victoria!
The CIAVIC runs the 4 largest caravans shows in Victoria, and this is mainly due to more
than 20,000 caravans being registered here for the last 8 years. Caravans have been the
largest growing vehicle category for a while and having more workers in the force than there
ever was in the car industry.
The CIAVIC has been working with the industry to help spread knowledge of safety and the
function of the vans. They have recently started to test caravans at there shows, and have
found issues with a lot of them – the highest being 14 breaches on a single van and car –
the biggest problem they have been finding is the vans being over weight by them selves, or
the cars not being equipped properly to support the extra mass.
If a trailer is over 2 ton GTM (Gross tear mass) it must be flitted with a breakaway system
that is fixed to a solid part of the vehicles chassis, this could be the same loop your
D-shackle attaches too, but not the actual shackles. D-shackles themselves don’t have any
set law on ratting, but it is recommended that you follow the lifting industry requirements.
More information is available on the CIAVIC website.
Tony Jambu – Track clearing:
The presentation started off with a video on a past track clearing event in Gippsland, Tony
explained through out the video how they have run in the past. Parks Victoria asked for us to
help put together a team to help get the tracks ready again for Summer.
Over the last few years we have had teams going out separate to the rangers to help cover
more ground during the weekend. People have said that this is one of the best joint trips run
by the clubs.
If you have any further questions on the weekend direct them to Tony Jambu.
