Day 28: Better drive today down to Tilmouth Well where we camped for the night on grass. Nice hot showers and a good meal in the restaurant was a welcome relief from camp cooking.
Day 29/30: A good wind came up during the night but did no damage – just made packing up the tent a bit tricky. Off to Alice Springs for a 2 night stay. The trip finished here for Paul and Sue as they stayed on to see the Eastern Macdonnell Ranges.
Day 31/32/33: Straight forward drive back to Melbourne for David and myself where we ended the trip.
What an adventure this has been - we all got on famously, I would travel again with my companions any time. Compatibility is paramount to a successful trip so a final thank you to all involved.
Interesting information:
From Yulara onwards there is no alchohol available (if going on the Gunbarrel Highway).
Kilometres travelled 10188.3 – Petrol used 2169.84 litres - cost $3659.07 – average = 21.3 litres/100 klms.(some sections using 27/100). I carried 220 litres and was ok. Paul carried a similar amount of diesel and was also ok.
