Front Runner roof rack. Fitted with the following options:

- Spare wheel bracket,

- Gas bottle holder,

- Holder for two 20 lt jerrycans,

- Bottle opener, hardly never used as I usually xxtake cans of Gunnies,

- Tigez11 awning,

- Savanah awning tent, which we roll out bed xxup in and put the whole lot on the roof rack,

- Reversing light/ rear cooking light, can be xxswapped around as required,

- Tube for small gas cans, I do not like gas in xxthe car,

- Shovel Holder,

- Stainless steel table that slides under the xxroof rack.

Issues:

The Pajero manual states that the roof rack max load is 100kg with rails, which is difficult to meet on occasions with my configuration.

The roof rack was attached to the Front Runner rails that are bolted through the roof with four brackets. The four original Front Runner brackets broke and I finished the Simpson with the roof rack held on to the car with a ratchet strap through the rear windows. The replacement brackets also broke. My eight home made ones are going fine and Front Runner have changed their design.

The jerrycan holders are good but I had to modify the brackets so they would hold the jerry cans firmly.

The jerry cans started to rub through on the Canning Stock Route when dust got between the cans and the cans and holder. I suggest putting plastic strips on the cans where they will rub if you plan to spend a long time of corrugated roads.

The Savanah awning tent is too tall for the car and too wide for the awning, so we have a tent with loose sides that we live with. I suggest if you buy an awning tent make sure that it fits the awning and car when you buy it and do not take the salesman’s word!

Tigez11 awning sags and leaks when it rains.

Inside

Rear Cargo Barrier. Came with the car.

Safety Net. When we go on long trips we take out the rear seats to provide more storage space. I install a forward cargo net behind the driver and passenger seats to stop anything coming into the front of the car. I also have hold down eyes on the floor by the rear passenger doors to secure the gear that is in front of the cargo barrier but behind the cargo net with a ratchet strap.

Communication. 40 channel fitted 2 way radio, 80 channel hand held and Thuraya Sat phone.

Navigation. Samsung tablet on adjustable mount with navigation software. All paper maps are covered with “Contact” so they last longer.

Speedo Reading Error Fix. Like most cars the speedo was not correct and I have fitted a “Bolec ERB205 Electronic Ratio Box” and now the speedo and taco are very accurate.

Driver Comfort. Left and right armrests, these lift the height of the arm rest to a comfortable height and are softer than the Mitsubishi ones. We also have inflatable lumber support cushions which make long drives very bearable.

Water Storage. 2 x solid Boab water tanks, 55lt strapped to the cargo barrier and 60lt behind the drivers seat bolted to the floor. Two separate tanks are a good idea in case one leaks. I have also fitted brass gate valves as I do not trust plastic fittings.
