EXCEED May/June 2019 Vol 36 No:3 | Page 13

TRIP REPORTS After the usual greetings and trip leader briefing, it's time to take the compulsory apology photo that will be shown at the May meeting that night. Photo taken, it's back to the scattered parked 4WD's for a second and successful attempt at mustering us all together. Tony leads off heading for Lorne and Apollo Bay via some amazing 4WD tracks in the Otway National Park. Some of the tracks driven include - the iconic Gentle Annie, Moggs Creek, Garvey, Cowley, and Goat Track. As Tony has a personal connection to the Otway's, we were all treated to some spectacular views including Mariners Lookout. From the look out you tower over the rugged southern ocean coastline and the ever winding Great Ocean Road. Due to rainfall a few days prior to our trip, the tracks were quite slippery and demanding but doable. The Otway's tracks are for ever changing, challenging your driving skills ongoing. There is however a plus as 1 year old Cassandra slept peacefully thanks to the calm rocking motion while driving through the sandy sections. After a long but wonderful day driving plan A, B, C & D, it was time to head to our accommodation at 'The Wonky Stables Holiday Park at Forest. This unique Caravan / Cabin park is situated approx 20k North West of Apollo Bay and has modern, clean facilities, though the camp kitchen is situated 100mtrs away from our cabins. Walid did not disappoint cooking up the most delicious home made hamburgers featuring a wasabi base mayonnaise. Based on the reactions from the group, Walid will be getting many invitations to accompany Pajero Club members on future trips. Ralph Longley 829 Thursday, 16 May 2019 We did a radio check and departed the caravan park at Forrest at 9.00am travelling along Forrest/Apollo Bay Road. We turned right into Wild Dog Road which was a narrow, winding tree lined road offering impressive views of the countryside between the trees.
