3. No more smashed eggs in the fridge – as long as you like omelettes or scrambled eggs of course.
I believe this is my last “planned” article – I wish you all well and will see you on the tracks.
Till next time…

1. Got to the campsite and realised you forgot the firelighters…… Well raid the kids snacks and use Dorritos – they really do burn (I have tried this and it works…)

Another product that has been advised as per Ian’s article is using Permethrin (over 2,250 times more toxic to ticks than humans) that rapidly paralyses then kills the tick before it will fall off about 24 hours later. Such a method is preferable to a younger patient and compliance with minimal to no pain subjected to.
Read http://ticksafe.com.au/tick-bite-first-aid/ for further practical first aid information.
You then just wait up to 24 hours as the killed tick will spontaneously drop off. One complication of this method of freezing is that you may cause a cold induced painful burn at the site of the bite if you spray the whole area rather than just the tick. The patient should be so advised prior.
The patient should seek medical advice afterwards. Try and place the killed tick, once it has fallen off, into a container to take to the Doctor so its species can be ascertained.
I hope the Department of Health’s (DoH) web site (that Ian refers to) is updated shortly to reflect the firmly adopted Australian medical guidelines, and not those accepted and used in other countries.
This more acceptable advise of killing the tick first is adopted by the Australian Resuscitation Council - ANZCOR Guideline 9.4.3 - Tick Bites and Bee, Wasp and Ant Stings - August 2016 on recommendation from TIARA
