Challenge Report 2017
Held 25 th -26 th March 2017
The Mitsubishi Motors Pajero Challenge 2017 was run over 3 sections around the Avoca/Moonambel
area of the Pyrenees.
There were 19 participants registered ranging from the practiced and skilled teams that have entered
year after year to those that had never entered any type of similar event before and were doing this for
the first time. For most of the experienced competitors, the course was plotted from the route notes
using mainly laptops and suitable navigation software while approximately half of the particip ants
planned their routes the old fashioned way, on the paper maps using rulers, compasses, protractors,
string and know how.
With the introductory briefing held at 8am on Saturday 25 th , each vehicle was fitted with a GPS tracker
and the section 1 route notes handed out to the participants to begin the event.
For section 1, course plotting was estimated at 40 minutes but none of the vehicles had begun driving
until close to an hour of plotting time had passed. Once out there, it was up to the navigators to keep
their drivers on route and to spot all the signs and photos that needed to be identified along the way.
