Cooking it up in the Bush By Tracy Morcom Camping Recipe Ideas for Kids Brownie Oranges · · · · · · 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. At least 1 orange per camper (Allow for “seconds”) Brownie or Cake/Pudding mix 1 sharp knife (to cut the oranges) Sturdy spoons Foil Wrap Ensure you have packed any additional ingredients listed on the brownie box such as oil and eggs if you don't prepare the mix at home beforehand. Slice the top off of each orange, and scoop out orange flesh. Prepare brownie mix according to directions. Fill each orange about 2/3s full with the brownie mix. Place the top back on each orange and wrap in heavy duty foil. Place in campfire coals for 25-30 minutes. Remove carefully with tongs, and allow to cool a few minutes. Serve with cream Note: I packed dry ingredients for healthier pudding/cake recipe and used the scooped out flesh and juice. Any cake/ pudding recipe will work. Everyone, young and old, will love the taste of this camp dessert, but it is also an activity for kids (ours were 3 and 5 years old) with some supervision. The foil and hollowed out orange skins act like a mini-oven, baking the brownie/cake mixture while also protecting it from the scorching effects of the direct heat.
