TRIP REPORTS
the blossoms. Towards lunchtime we turned onto Hinces
Creek Track and shortly after we arrived at Hinces Creek
Campground in the Burrowa Pine Mountain NP for lunch.
After lunch and with temperatures in the 40's it was
unanimously decided to head back to camp for some
cooling shade and maybe a dip in Nariel Creek. Thanks
Laurie and Chris for an interesting start to our long
weekend.

January 26. Day 2.
Many flags in the camping ground to celebrate Australia
Day. Most people had a restless sleep as very hot so
Laurie had us departing at 8.00 am to visit the historic
Towong Turf Club Pavilion. Apparently the Phar Lap film
was partly produced here.
Farran’s Lookout was our next stop where we could view
the Murray River offering a backdrop of smoke hazed
Alps due to the NSW fires. On to Mittamatite Regional
Park. Black Angus were crowded under any large shady
trees to get some relief from the sun and many were up
to their bellies in dams.
“Australia Day”
An extensive view from Emberys lookout of Corryong and
the valley, then onto Mt Mittamatite old navigational
towers. One was manned as a fire lookout and forms a
triangle with Mt Benambra and Mt Granya, a very
important role in this forest area.
“Emberys Lookout”
”Tintaldra”
We then proceeded to Tintaldra only to find the historic
pub closed so we relaxed by the river and watched the
sculptured Murray cod windvane move about on the
water. As the Walwa Hotel was open we decided to
check out potential camping sites along the route to that
thirst quenching depot. It was 40 degrees at 12.30 so the
drinks were downed swiftly then we made our own
arrangements for lunch checking out the General Store
for great memorabilia.
We returned to Colac Colac caravan park via Cudgewa
and sat under shady trees. Fred Lubbe generously
supplied a hose sprayer and water to frequently lower
our body heat, what a life saver.
