Paul and Sue Harris planned and were to lead trip
but Paul injured his back and had to withdraw.
Day 1 - Monday 18th February
The group were to meet in Mole Creek on the 18 th
having individually made there way to Tasmania
during the week. All there except Nick and Anna
who phoned from Chudleigh with possible brake
problems, everybody joined them and phone calls to
RACT resulted in a flattop transfer back to Deloraine
accompanied by James.
It was decided others would return to Mole Creek
and visit the Marakoopa and King Solomons caves as
planned, (certainly worth the effort) keeping in
contact and when Nick got the all clear he and
James re-joined the group.(turned out to be a false
alarm) After regrouping we decided to drive to
Cradle Mountain.
On arrival we decided it was to late to visit Dove
Lake and discovered camp grounds were all full, on
the advice of a bus driver we proceeded to Lake Lea
5 kms. down track, very exposed so we sort out
shelter in the scrub. Rained most of the night,
temperature dropped to 4 degrees and Lael and Joy
had leeches welcome to the mountains of Tasmania.
Had checked weather forecast earlier when plan
was to camp further north.
Day 2 - 19th
After a wet pack up drove back to Cradle Mountain
and a hot drink, here Lael stepped up discovering
that seniors were free on the shuttle bus and were
allowed ten guests so we all travelled free, thanks
Lael. (If you arrive prior to 8am you can drive to and
park at the lake). In cold and blustery conditions
four of us walked around the lake, well done Anna.
Lael and Joy opting to visit the Parks and Wildlife
Centre, we all met up again at the café. for lunch.
Over lunch the group decided to head direct to
Wynyard to try to get back on schedule. The scenery
was spectacular and it was a pleasant drive.
